Say Goodbye to Plastic Bags!! California Takes a Stand: New Law Bans Plastic Shopping Bags at Checkouts

New Law Closes Loopholes in Plastic Bag Ban, Encouraging Sustainable Shopping Practices Across California.

Starting January 1, 2026, California will eliminate the option of "paper or plastic" at grocery checkouts, as Gov. Gavin Newsom signs a law banning all plastic shopping bags. This builds on the 2014 ban, closing loopholes that allowed thicker plastic bags deemed "reusable." Shoppers will need to bring their own bags or buy recycled paper bags for a small fee. By 2028, the definition of a recycled paper bag will require over 50% recycled material. Advocates celebrate the move, highlighting its positive impact on marine life and California's $45 billion ocean economy. Join the fight for a cleaner coast!
