Tropical Storm Helene Set to Intensify into a Major Hurricane Threatening Florida’s Gulf Coast
Tropical Storm Helene is gaining strength and is forecast to become a major hurricane as it approaches Florida’s Gulf Coast. Currently, Helene is 60 miles east-northeast of Cozumel, Mexico, with sustained winds of 70 mph. Moving northwest at 9 mph, the storm is expected to reach hurricane status by Thursday, hitting areas like Big Bend and Tallahassee with dangerous storm surge, heavy rain, and high winds.
Hurricane and tropical storm warnings are in place for Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina. Coastal residents are urged to finalize hurricane preparations, as severe weather impacts, including tornadoes, are likely to extend far inland. Flood risks remain high, with strong winds pushing inland by Friday. Coastal Georgia and the Lowcountry should also be on high alert.
Authorities recommend staying updated on evacuation orders and emergency alerts to ensure safety.
